Our goal is simple: to teach our seminar attendees how to make money in the lawsuit funding industry.
Our seminar leader, David Schechter, is uniquely qualified to teach this subject. He has been operating a successful lawsuit funding business since 2001. He has participated either as a broker or funder in over $8,000,000 worth of these transactions with hundreds of plaintiffs and lawyers. He has marketed to plaintiffs using the internet, print, television, and radio. He has marketed to lawyers in numerous different ways. He has raised capital to fund cases by operating an investment partnership and by selling interests in cases to investors. David has opted to keep his overhead very low, and will share with you the financial and lifestyle advantages of that model. He will also discuss the opportunities to build a larger organization in the industry.
I was surprised when David got into this business. He had worked for most of his career for a company that distributed wristwatches to discount stores. Like so many others, his employer had been “downsized” after being sold to a private equity investor (who loaded the company up with debt) and David was suddenly unemployed. He was 43, supporting a wife and two daughters, and unemployed for the first time in his life. Hardly a legal genius, David had zero experience with the legal process prior to starting his business. He had never marketed financial services to the public or anything to lawyers.
What David did have was 20 years of business experience, a little capital, a desire to work and the benefit of a two day seminar on the lawsuit funding business. In the 90’s, a company ran seminars on the lawsuit funding industry, charging $11,500 for a two day seminar. Many of the people in the industry today, including David, attended those seminars, which were more about evaluating the merits of the cases then the more important subject: putting together all of the elements to operate a successful business in this industry.
David will teach you everything he knows about the business. He’ll tell you what works and what doesn’t. He’ll talk extensively about separating the good cases from the bad, but more importantly he’ll talk about pricing, marketing, raising capital, legal issues, and tracking and following up on your cases, among other subjects. We will provide, on CD-ROM, all the contracts, documents and forms you need to operate your business. He’ll do this teaching using the Socratic Method, encouraging questions and discussion from the seminar attendees. His discussion will be full of real world examples of the underlying concepts. David is an engaging public speaker who leads lively and informative seminars.
